Shri Sai Samadhi Diwas, celebrated annually in Shirdi, Maharashtra, marks the day of the Maha Samadhi of Shirdi Sai Baba, a revered saint and spiritual leader. This day is significant for devotees as it commemorates Baba’s journey to the divine and reflects the core values he instilled in his followers: love, compassion, and selfless service. One of the most cherished traditions of this day is the preparation and distribution of khichdi as "Bhandara Prasad," a practice that encapsulates the spirit of "Annadaan Mahadaan" – the great act of feeding.
Preparation for the Event
Months ahead of the event, preparations begin in earnest. The Shirdi Sai Rasoi oversees the organization, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Volunteers from various backgrounds come together, motivated by a shared devotion to Baba and a desire to serve the community.
Planning and Logistics:
The logistics team coordinates the procurement of ingredients, which include rice, lentils, spices, and vegetables. Approximately 5,000 kilograms of khichdi is prepared to serve 45,000 to 50,000 people.
Large cauldrons, traditionally called "handis," are set up in the Shirdi Sai Rasoi (the community kitchen), equipped to handle the massive quantities needed.

On the day of Shri Sai Samadhi Diwas, Shirdi Sai Rasoi transforms into a hub of devotion and joy. Thousands of devotees gather at the Bhandara Venue. The atmosphere is charged with reverence, as people from different walks of life come together to honor the saint.
